Licence terms
What a Pro licence covers, how many sites, and what happens with client work.
The code
MetaWrench is released under the GPL, the same licence WordPress itself uses. It means the code is yours to read, change and copy, on as many sites as you like, and nobody can take that away. Every WordPress plugin that hooks into WordPress the way this one does is GPL; it is the normal licence, not a special one.
What you pay for is not the code. It is a year of updates, the Pro features being switched on for one site, and support from the people who wrote it. When the year ends, the plugin keeps running; the Pro tools and updates stop until you renew.
What a Pro licence is
A Pro licence is a one-year subscription that gives one WordPress site access to Pro features, automatic updates and email support. The site is whichever one the key is activated on. You can move the key to a different site by deactivating it on the old one first.
On a WordPress multisite network, each site that uses Pro needs its own licence.
More than one site
Buy one licence per site. Agency and multi-site plans are coming; until then, email us if you need more than five and we will sort something out.
Client sites
Yes, you can use MetaWrench on sites you build or manage for clients. Either buy a licence per site in your own name, or have the client buy their own. Support comes to whoever holds the licence. If a client stops working with you, hand the licence to them or deactivate it — don’t leave a key in someone else’s site that renews on your card.
What you can’t do with a key
Share it publicly, resell it, or use one key on more sites than it covers. Keys used that way are suspended.
When it lapses
Pro features stop updating and support ends. The plugin keeps working, the free tier keeps working, and your settings are kept. Renew any time to pick up where you left off.
